Skincare Talk With MelRod Style

Beauty, brains, and bomb ass skincare tips Melissa Rodriguez of the lifestyle blog Mel Rod Style is dropping major gems in our interview below.

DF: How did you get started as a blogger?

M: Funny you ask. My Blog's 7th anniversary is actually today June 15th. My blog started off as just a hobby. I loved putting outfits together, but there wasn't a platform to showcase my style until I came across the whole blogging world. That's when I decided to start my own blog.

DF: Describe your skincare routine and your essentials?

M: When it comes to beauty, skincare is my top priority and extremely important to me. I never skip a day without washing my skin - day and night. I wash my face every morning and every night. No excuse. No doubt about it that healthy skin begins from the inside and it is key to eat healthy and stay hydrated, however; what you apply on your skin is also important, too. Here's my daily routine... Morning routine: Since my skin is already clean, I use a more gentle cleanser: ZO Medical Norma Cleanse (I have two: one for morning and one for nighttime), followed by a serum by IS Clinical. I use the Origins A Perfect World age defense eye cream which has SPF. I alternate between my Origins A Perfect World moisturizer and ZO daily power moisturizer since they both have sunscreen. Lastly, lip balm by La Mer. I never leave the house without applying lip balm. Night routine: I use the Farmacy makeup melt away cleaning balm to remove makeup, followed by IS Clinical cleansing. Right after my skin is clean, I apply the Organic Pharmacy Collagen Boost Mask serum, then apply my night eye cream: Perricone MD High Potency Eye Lift. Lastly, I use the Reparative Moisture Emulsion by IS Clinical.  And of course my lip balm by La Mer.Twice a week I exfoliate with ZO Exfoliating Polish or the IS Clinical Tri-Active ExfoliantOn days I need to apply any acne product, I use the ZO Sulfur Masque & ZO acne pads, and finish off by applying the IS Clinical Active Serum. I know it may seem pretty intense, but it's very important for me to keep my skincare routine in order for me to maintain my skin looking and feeling healthy.

DF: Describe you beauty vibe? It's very simple really.

M: Natural Dewey/glowy look is always my go-to. I keep my makeup very minimal.

DF: What are your tips for looking and feeling alive after a long flight?

M: Do not travel with a full face of makeup or makeup at all. I always fly with a clean and hydrated face to prevent from any breakouts. The Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray is my holy grail. Gives my skin life.

DF: Top "5" stranded on a desert island essentials?

M: This is a tough question, but if I had to choose just 5, they would be lip balm, Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, sunscreen, collagen masks,

DF: Who are your beauty icons?

M: Nicole Richie and Shay Mitchell for obvious reasons. They're both my style, beauty and everything in between muse. I also really love this Parisian makeup artist Violette also known as @violette_fr. She is everything goals!

DF: Brow talk wax, thread, or tweeze?

M: Definitely tweeze.

DF: LA is such a beauty hot spot where are your favorite places to shop for beauty products in the city?

M: To be honest, I do all my shopping online. Nordstrom, Ulta, Sephora

DF: What are 3 things you learned about yourself this year so far?

M: It's so easy to get lost in the shuffle and feel discouraged in this blogger world we live in, but what I've learned is that it's important not to underestimate myself or discredit the work I create, and to not be affords to put myself out there.

DF: Having a career in the digital space requires a lot time on your phone or on the computer, how do you balance it all and still make time for yourself?

M: It's all about balance. I have a set schedule but of course with life sometimes getting in the way, thing come up - life happens. I like to have all work done and blogposts scheduled by Sunday before the work week begins. So that I can actually enjoy life in real life lol. I work a blogpost similar to this topic called How to Juggle Blog Life and Real Life - http://melrodstyle.com/2017/05/how-to-juggle-blog-life-and-real-life/
